for Desperate Duchesses

We think clothes are revealing these days…it appears that the Georgian period had its own brand of near-nakedness! Here's a print by Isaac Cruikshank from 1794, that shows two ladies sitting in an opera box bare-breasted. A whole cluster of prints by different artists between 1794 and 1796 suggest a fashion for near-nudity!
