What woman doesn't own a cabinet full of cosmetics? The same could be said for Regency ladies! The Lady's Monthly Museum reported in January, 1804, that a certain lady saw an advertisement for a depilatory in the newspaper. So she bought it and rubbed it around her mouth; it removed her hairs and her skin! Then the poor lady bought a book, Medusa's Kettle, or the Art of Restoring Decayed Beauty, which had an infallible recipe to produce a beautiful complexion. She put it on – but when she woke in the morning, "her whole face was a bright garter blue!"
